We decided that we would start with the easy bits first. The sidecar chassis appeared to be completely intact so we set about detaching this from the main frame. Fortunately, the outfit was designed to have a removable sidecar as, up until 1966, Terry and John used a Ford Thames van for transportation to race meetings and the complete outfit would not have fitted inside it. The sidecar chassis was actually carried on a roof rack on top of the van and only the bike itself went inside. After Terry married Maureen in 1966 a Ford Transit van which Terry fitted out as a camper was utilized and thereafter the outfit was towed on a trailer, so it was no longer necessary to remove the sidecar when traveling to meetings .
But, after a bit of cleaning off with a shot blaster, quite a lot of re-brazing of joints etc.and a new paint finish, we have ended up with this -
So with the new nosecone things begin to take shape and with the refurbished sidecar wheel now fitted with a new tyre the sidecar is coming along fine. Which is already a far cry from what we originally saw at the NMM
