On September 16th 2003, The National Motorcycle Museum suffered from a catastrophic fire. In total around 500 motorcycles were either damaged severely or beyond repair. Around a third of the collection, some 250 motorcycles were saved. One of the machines that suffered major damage was the ex- Terry Vinicombe Kirby BSA outfit which won the 1968 750cc sidecar TT at the Isle of Man. This was the only sidecar outfit ever to have been sponsored by Tom Kirby -  indeed it was his only TT winner (despite him having sponsored the likes of Mike Hailwood and Bill Ivy, amongst many other famous legends) - one of only two BSA outfits ever to have won a sidecar TT (Chris Vincent won in 1962) and the last entirely British machine to have done so until Nigel Rollason's Barton Phoenix some eighteen years later. These pages will follow the restoration of this machine utilising resources which are being painstakingly and meticulously gathered together from around the country. Pictured here is the outfit on the way to the TT win in 1968
